The Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC is actively engaged in local community development, initiating, organizing and supporting a range of activities and projects. It helps grow our region’s businesses and organizations while promoting community mobilization around innovative projects, strengthening strategic alliances and developing new marketing opportunities.

We’re ready to work with you on projects that correspond to our action plan and encourage community members to take the lead in ensuring our region’s development.

Programs offered

For many years, the Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC has contributed to the creation and maintenance of jobs in the region, notably through the management of programs such as Career Focus, in partnership with Service Canada, and the Industry Canada’s Small Business Internship Program (SBIP).

 

VERS UN EMPLOI

This program provides non-refundable financial support to companies for hiring a young in need of assistance to overcome barriers to employment. More than 10 internships are available each year in the Baie-des-Chaleurs for a period of 3 years.

Here are the program’s objectives and eligibility criteria.

Program objectives

  • Helping youth to overcome barriers to employment;
  • Helping young people to devlop a wide range of skills and knowledge in order to participate in today’s labor market or to return to school
  • Promoting educations and skills as the key to labor market participation;
  • Facilitating young people’s acces and integration into the labor market;
  • Helping young people to stay employed.

Eligibility criteria

Eligible organizations

  • For-profit businesses
  • Social economy enterprises
  • Non-profit organizations

Employee hiring criteria

  • Need help to overcome barriers to employment, for exemple: 
    • Non-completion of high school;
    • No post-secondary dimploma;
    • Disabled person;
    • Language barriers (English);
    • Other.
  • Between 16 and 30 years of age (inclusive);
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Do not receive EI benefits while participating to the project Connexion compétence.

Employer hiring criteria

  • Capable of ensuring a supervised internship;
  • Must have potential full-time and long-term employment;
  • Capable of assuming 15% of the paid salary and benefits during the program and capable of assuming the employee’s salary for 35 hrs/wk at the end of the program;
  • Be a member of the Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC.
  • The hiring of a graduate must not replace or displace an existing employee or individuals who are absent due to a conflict or dispute, on leave, layoff or employees who are entitled to recall;

Available contribution

  • Contribution of up to 85% of minimum wage
  • For a 35-hour work week
  • Period between 12 to 26 weeks, average of 16 weeks.

Eligible period

  • Cohort 1 : Must be hired between July 17,2017 and November 6, 2017
  • Cohort 2 : Must be hired between May 28, 2018 and September 17, 2018
  • Cohort 3 : Must be hired between May 13, 2019 and Septembre 2, 2019

No reservation, places are assigned when the employer-employee duos are formed, meet the program criteria and match the deadlines estabilish by the program.

Small Business Support Program (SAPE)

Introducing a new initiative to help small businesses in the region! The Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC is proud to announce the launch of the new Small Business Support initiative in collaboration with the Réseau des SADC et CAE du Québec.

The objective

To provide small businesses with access to specialized expertise and support in four key areas considered vital to Quebec's economy. These four areas are:

  • Innovation
  • Succession and transfer of businesses
  • Sustainable development
  • Integration of information technologies for e-commerce

Some project examples

  • Develop a strategy for sustainable innovation in a company
  • Develop a sustainable development plan
  • Identify more efficient technologies and processes
  • Help owners considering succession get started with the transfer process
  • Establishing an e-business website

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a private company
  • Be a corporate or client member of the Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC
  • The company must have the financial capacity to carry out its project

Nature and amount of aid granted

Under the Small Business Support Program the SADC can provide financial assistance up to $5,000 per project, in the form of a non-repayable contribution.

  • Projects of $1,000 or less can receive up to 90% of eligible costs
  • Projects costing more than $1,000 can receive up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $5,000 per project

The financial contribution made under this initiative may be complementary to existing government programs or may be used in the absence of such programs.

  • Municipal organizations
  • Non-profit organizations

Terms and conditions

  • Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, depending on the availability of funds
  • Priority will be given to members who are applying for the first time

Community Internet Access Centres

(Centres d'accès communautaire à internet – CACI)

The Community Internet Access Centres (CACI) have been developed through Industry Canada's Community Access Program (CAP). The program’s goal is to provide affordable access to the information highway.

Community Internet Access Centres offer the opportunity for members of rural communities to browse the Internet, use a variety of computer software and hardware, attend training workshops and more. Resource people are available on site to greet you and help you.

A number of services are offered to you in the Baie-des-Chaleurs CACI:

  • Access to multiple computers
  • Training workshops
  • Personalized service
  • Printing of documents
  • Digitization of photographs
  • Job search and online services
  • Learning activities for all ages
  • And more!

Baie-des-Chaleurs Human Resources Conference

Once a year, the Baie-des-Chaleurs SADC organizes the Baie-des-Chaleurs Human Resources Conference, in partnership with Emploi-Québec. More than 100 people participate every year.

This annual event is open to the general public, offering a great opportunity to hear well-known speakers and participate in workshops. It provides businesses and workers in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region an option for developing human resource skills without having to travel to major centers.

Teamwork, developing a sense of belonging, collaboration, intergenerational challenges and credibility in the workplace are among the topics discussed in recent years.
